2013 - August Rain

 Looking out the kitchen window Friday evening we saw a hawk on the tree branch.  I moved in front of the window to get his picture and he flew away.  Just a few minutes later, he was back again on the branch.  Look close and you can see him.

The Results of Rain in the Mountains

Today is Saturday 8/24/13, and I went to clean the church about 10:30 AM.   At the church the power went out before I finished vacuuming.  It did not come back on so I headed home around 1:00PM.   I got to the mailbox at the end of the pavement on Quartz to drive my 2 1/2 miles on dirt.  The Stateline road was full of muddy water. (It hadn't even rained at the church)  The cloud burst was North and West of us, but the water filled all the dirt roads like a muddy river.

 Here's one more picture of the sky and muddy river running on my road to home.  I turned around and went to the other side of the valley and drove on the Kingston Road to Two Hawk Hay ranch road.  Kale met us (Dad was following me in the semi) and told us that he had been stuck and his 4 wheel drive got them out.  So we took the high road up around the hay field to the sod field  to the SW of our house.  The road had several wash outs.

 I made it home, but the semi got stuck in the muddy water across the road from our place.  This is the driveway on the West side of the house.  If you look close you can see Dad wading through the water to come to the house.

 This is looking toward the house where you turn in off the dirt road.  The water was receding late this afternoon.  But now tonight we have more water running through our place than there was when we got home today.  I don't think we'll be going anywhere for a day or two.

Alfalfa 4th crop

 This was early August when John Roundy cut his 4th crop of hay.

 One morning the Roundy's came into the field and raked the hay and then immediately baled it. 

Before the end of that day, the bales were loaded on the truck and hauled away.

2013 Parowan

On July 23, I rode the St George Shuttle from Las Vegas Airport to St. George.  Deveny and her kids picked me up and we drove back to Parowan.  Candis and her kids drove from Orem to Parowan and we spent the next 24 hours together having lots of fun.

2013 YW Girls Camp

I was invited to go with the Sandy Valley Branch to Young Women Girls Camp.  We left Sandy Valley on July 16, 2013 early in the morning.  We drove to Beaver, Utah and had lunch.

Katie Seagle, Mercedes Larsen, Hayley Perez, Isabel Perez and Tempest (Grace) Gonzales eating lunch.  Afton Shupe was not with us because she had gone earlier with Pres. and Sister Shupe. 

 We stopped next at Cove Fort to take the tour.  Nick, me, Tempest, Ronda Perry, Hayley, Isabel, Katie, and Mercedes are pictured here.

We saw each room in the Fort.  This is the kitchen.

And this was their awesome garden.

 We arrived at our campsite in Fillmore, UT late in the afternoon.  The camp had a creek at the side of it.  It was a beautiful place.  This is our cooking area.

 All the girls were able to repel down the mountain with the help of the Shupe's cousin, Andrew Brown.  They were nervous, but each one of them did it.

We hiked in the mountain and crossed the same creek 5 times each way.  Norma is crossing over.  Pres. Shupe is on the other side waiting to help anyone who needed help.

We arrived in camp Tuesday, July 16 and left camp Saturday, July 20 arriving home late Saturday afternoon.  It was a great experience.  The girls were great.

Idaho July 2013

 Darrin built a big pond for the kids to invite friends to swim and play.  This is north of the house.  Damon and a couple of his friends are in the boat trying to get away from Quenten.  Several families came to spend the afternoon and evening to play, then eat, then watch fire works for the 4th of July.
